Cryptocurrencies
BITCOIN
The very first cryptocurrency ever created. Nowadays, it is common knowledge, but it still needs to be stated that bitcoin at the time of its introduction was revolutionary. The sheer amount of projects that tried to imitate its success is proof enough of how historically relevant the whole thing was. The whole idea came from the thought of providing a safe and anonymous method of online payment that would be completely decentralized.
ETHEREUM
This crypto was conceived by the famed programmer Vitalik Buterin. It was thought of as bitcoin but with a twist. Buterin thought that blockchain technology could benefit from having more than just money on it, and should instead be used for a variety of other applications. Besides the difference in price, this crypto distinguishes itself from bitcoin as it uses “Proof of Stake”. This is its main form of guaranteeing online transaction speed and safety, which is a lot less energy-consuming. Therefore a lot more environmentally friendly than Proof of Work, which requires a lot more computational power.
USDT
This is a token issued by the Hong Kong Company Tether Limited. USDT was conceived as a form of “stable-coin”. This means that any user could withdraw their money into more conventional currency at any time, due to it being fully backed by dollar reserves from US companies. It has become most known for its ease of use in purchasing other crypto assets and also for being a kind of safeguard against inflation.
